FDA announcement
A landmark announcement from the FDA to phase out animal testing requirement for monoclonal antibodies by replacing with more effective human-relevant methods has now been published. This move towards alternative methods of testing will Replace, Reduce and Refine (3Rs) animal testing – it has been estimated that 10 million animals a year are used worldwide for these purposes.
At Alcyomics we are already leading the way in the transformation of drug development with Skimune® our unique non-animal, non-artificial human based in vitro assays.
The ability to speed up the drug development process by replacing the animal testing requirement will bring therapies to patients more quickly, reduce the cost of research and development and ultimately, drug prices.
Alcyomics CEO, Professor Anne Dickinson has dedicated over 30 years of research to develop and expand the applications in which Skimune® can provide significant safety data.
“Myself and others in the field have been waiting a long time for this welcome announcement , to support non animal testing in favour of human based tissue assays and I am sure it will aid in the development of these types of assays to deliver drugs more efficiently and safely in the future”
